Jasmine Clouds is a mixed-media work created on the wall in the Praxis Gallery Space in November 2023. Using acrylics, graphite, charcoal and pastels, I created marks and gestures directly on the wall surface. There is printed paper that looks ripped off from the wall, conveying a sense of depth. The soft sheerness of the chiffon alludes to a sense of delicate ephemerality of the inner world of thoughts and feelings.
Working on the wall directly is a choice to reject the defined boundaries of a surface like a canvas or a paper. The work is an externalisation of intimate musings and contemplations, not by reading words but through the marks and gestures that allude to the impulse to communicate, that arises even before the word is formed on our heads. The wall itself offers to be be quite a metaphor for the limits of language.
